Destined for Tragedy (Self-Destruction), 1/3), 2024

An archive of New Queer Cinema films made between 1985-2005, every scene is categorised into three themes; Poison, Self-destruction and Healing.

Self-Destruction represents a common theme within queer narratives, queer identity being the excuse for self-destructive behaviour. Protagonists put themselves through violence and pain often as a way of confronting internalised homophobia.

Marina Abramovic often proves violence within her audience to alleviate herself of the violence she thinks is innate to Eastern European people. We have similar tendencies when queer (and non-queer) people write their own stories.

These stories win awards.
